4 Reasons Why You Should Try Skateboarding
Everyone is looking for new and exciting things to do outdoors these days. There seem to always be new activities out there- horseback riding, golfing, or running. If you are bored with these though and need a good pick-up to your routine, why not try getting your workout done on skateboards?
Skateboards are not just for kids anymore. In fact, all you have to do is look at the fine woodworking skateboards available in the market today and see how these boards have turned into an art form. Here are some of the main reasons why you should try skateboarding today:
1) It’s great exercise. Here’s a challenge: get on a skateboard (with the proper safety equipment) and test it out for just one hour. Get your balance, see if you can glide a little and get comfortable. Guaranteed the next day you’ll feel like you ran a marathon! The fact is that skateboarding uses all of your muscles, and especially your core muscles. To balance while moving and shifting is all about developing the core. Likely you’ll feel the stress of your legs, core, arms and backside when you’re done with your hour-long trial workout. Keep it up and you’ll see just how well developed your muscles are going to get!
2) Skateboards are works of art and let you express yourself. Boards aren’t just single-colored planks of wood anymore. Just take a look at BeYou Skateboards for example. This company out of Byron Bay has a long list of handcrafted boards for any preference. If you have a proclivity to boarding, you may just want to get a look at their quality boards. The marquetry involved is fantastic and can definitely set you apart when you’re boarding. Let’s face it, skateboarding is about individuality, freedom and a little rebelliousness. So why not get a board that matches up to that reputation?
3) It lets you meet new people. Inevitably when you get confident enough to head down to the skate park, you are going to meet new skateboarders. It is a great way to make friends and have very cool people to hang out with. You can share tips and tricks. You can travel the roads together. Likely you are going to love a newfound kinship with groups that you otherwise would never have met up with!
4) Skateboarding is going teach you a thing or two about determination. Once you get into skateboarding, you are likely going to want to challenge yourself with new moves. Here is where the determination comes in. You may not get that new move after just 3 tries. You may not get it after 10 tries. You may not get it until you’ve tried 20 times a day for a week! The fact is that you learn that determination is what is key here. Once you do get that one trick you’ve been practicing, you’re going to know the euphoric feeling of a job well done.
Skateboarding is a fantastic sport to get outdoors and enjoy the world. If you are looking for something new to do, give it a try. It could be the very thing that gets you excited about exercise again!
